In a small town in the countryside of Russia, lived a small girl named Alevtina. She lived in a small village called Esso with her family. She was very young, just a tender age of 9 but was brave and curious; she would want to know the answer to everything around.
Esso was a small village. Not many people in the village had dared to explore out of the village and they believed that there’s nothing more on the other side of the world.
However, this little girl, Alevtina always questioned the adults in the village. “How is it that there’s nothing other than just us?”
They would just reply, “You will understand when you grow older”. But that did not stop her curiosity.
She used to travel around the hills in her village and would gaze far in the distant land and wonder, “What is it, out there? In those lush green hills, those steep valleys, those open skies…”. Whenever she got a chance, she would run around to the woods and explore. She would run around, gathering fruits and wild berries. Sometimes she would collect exotic and colourful flowers.
Yet, she was again told by the people around, “Alevtina, there is nothing out there. There are no people other than just us. Quit your hunt right away. You are endangering your life by wandering into forests like this. What if you are attacked by a wild animal?”
She did not believe them and believed strongly that there are more people than just us.
Many years passed, and her curiosity piqued. She read many books, saw maps, and old scriptures. She knew she wanted to escape one day into the outer world. She would write poems in wonder and awe of the external world, the sky and the universe. People in the village would call her a daydreamer, a fool for believing in something that does not exist, but she did not care for their words and judgements.
She had made up her mind to leave that village and fulfil her desire to explore beyond the forest.
One day, when she was young enough, she packed her bags and food and walked towards the woods. She travelled for a few days, she walked deeper into the forest. Travelling for around a week she covered a long distance, crossing the forest, river and mountains. She reached a cross road. One road was pointing towards Volodrud (4 Kms) and another to Umdsk (5 kms)
