Rohit’s parents decided to give their son all that he asks for. As he was their single child they wanted him to have everything he wishes. His happiness was always their priority. Rohit asked for Rs. 60,000 to buy an iPhone as he was fed up with using his old mobile phone. His parents gifted him with an iPhone. A few weeks passed Rohit now passed the driver’s license. He wanted the most expensive bike to ride on. His parents bought him the best bike. With each passing day, Rohit demanded more and more money to fulfil his ever-increasing desires and wishes.
One day Rohit was talking to his friends when his parents overheard him. He said to his friend Nayan, “Oh Nayan, Why are you wearing such cheap outfits?, You know, I don’t wear anything that is not from a designer.”. To which Nayan replied, “Rohit, not everyone’s parents are so rich to afford all the luxuries, my parents work day and night and work very hard to earn for a livelihood and I have learned from them to never waste hard-earned money”. Listening to this, a realization struck upon the parents.
They were giving Rohit everything he wanted and asked for, but by doing so, they were probably spoiling their son. He had forgotten how hard is to earn a livelihood. They completed all his desires as they did not want their son to be unhappy about anything but it was also important that he learns about the value of money.
They decided and sat with Rohit to discuss this topic with him. They said, “Rohit, you are our most lovable son. We always want you to be happy in your life. And that’s why we never deny your needs and demands. But do you know that money is the most valuable asset in one’s life? Each cent, each paisa requires so much hard work to earn. If we continue to spend our money lavishly on buying and using luxuries in life, one day may come when we will need money but will not be having any to spend. No doubt we should use the money to buy all the necessities in life, but we should not blindly buy luxurious things for the mere sake of showing them off to others. We should always use money wisely and with understanding and should even try to save some for the future. We are rich only because we both worked very hard in our respective professions. Like your friend Nayan said, not everyone has a rich background. If we will use our money recklessly we may also become poor. We want you too to become successful in your life and for that, you must learn to respect money and the efforts put behind earning it.
Such a step taken by their parents at the right time helped Rohit build up a good career and grow as a better human being. Rohit became very successful and also respected his parents for their lessons at the right time.
